What Are Keywords and How do You Use Them?

There are many explanations and instructions on keywords and how to use them.  This is a simple and effective explanation as to what keywords are.  They will be very important to the success of your blog, because using keywords correctly will bring traffic to your blog and of course, when you want to make money with your blog, traffic is always the goal.

Keywords simply put, are a search term a person would type in on a search engine that would direct them to your blog.  Let’s say your blog is about how to get fit in 6 weeks. You then ask yourself “what would I type into a search engine to reach my blog?” 

Some good keywords terms (they can be more than one word) in this case would be for instance; get fit fast, get fit in 6 weeks, easy fitness, quick fitness, you get the idea.

Now, to get these searches to your blog, you will need to lace your blog with the keyword terms you have chosen, but be careful not to overdo it.  Put them in your articles.  Use them as the title and/or tagline of your blog.  Then when you put an article on your blog, you place the pertinent keywords in the tag section of your WordPress write page or write post area. 

Using the right keywords is important, and having those keywords on your site in various areas is critical because the keywords on your blog are a traffic magnet.

This site will tell you how many competitors your have for your term, how many people are searching using that keyword term per month, and lastly how many people globally are using that particular search term.  These are all considerations that will be helpful to you when you are deciding which keywords will be most beneficial to your blog.

You will always want to use the pertinent keyword terms with the least amount of competition and the most monthly searches.
